Email Privacy Act Amending ECPA Disclosure Procedures Passes U.S. House

(April 28, 2016, 2:05 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Email Privacy Act (EPA) passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a unanimous 419-0 vote on April 27. The bill, which was introduced to amend provisions of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (ECPA) related to disclosure of communications and subscriber information by electronic communication service (ECS) providers in response to government requests and subpoenas, heads next to the U.S. Senate (Email Privacy Act, H.R. 699, U.S. House).
