9th Circuit Upholds Sentence Of Tribal Leader For Kickback Scheme
Mealey's (April 26, 2016, 10:21 AM EDT) -- SEATTLE — A tribal official was properly sentenced to more than seven years in prison for a kickback scheme involving federal water project funding because of his high-level position in the tribe and his leadership role for the scheme, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals held April 22 (United States of America v. Tony James Belcourt, Nos. 14-30173, 14-30174, 14-30175, 14-30176, 9th Cir.; 2016 U.S. App. LEXIS 7349).
