FDA Withdraws Approvals For Advicor, Simcor At Request Of Manufacturer AbbVie

(April 18, 2016, 2:08 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration said April 18 that it has withdrawn its approval of the cholesterol drugs Advicor and Simcor at the request of manufacturer AbbVie Inc. for reasons of safety and effectiveness.

The FDA made the announcement in a notice published in the Federal Register.

Advicor is a combination of the prescription cholesterol drug lovastatin and extended-release niacin. Simcor is a combination of the prescription cholesterol drug simvastatin and extended-release niacin.
