5th Circuit Affirms Ruling Barring Shrimping Boat Company From Settlement

Mealey's (April 11, 2016, 2:41 PM EDT) -- NEW ORLEANS — A Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals panel on April 8 affirmed a federal judge in Louisiana’s rulings granting a special master’s motions to order two claimants to reimburse the BP Exploration and Production Inc. settlement fund for monies they received for claims stemming from lost income from their shrimping business as a result of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and barring the claimants from participating in the settlement, ruling that the judge did not abuse his discretion when finding that the claims were fraudulent (In re: Deepwater Horizon: Jason Zirlott, et al. v.
