Insurer Seeks High Court’s Review Of Opinion On Plan Notification Deadline

(April 8, 2016, 9:57 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — A disability insurer filed a petition for writ of certiorari on March 3 in the U.S .Supreme Court, challenging the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals’ conclusion that a plan’s claim notification deadline can be waived if a claimant’s disability prevents a claimant from timely filing a claim for disability benefits (UniCare Life and Health Insurance Co. v. Laura Waskiewicz, No. 15-1116, U.S. Sup.; 2016 U.S. S. Ct. Briefs LEXIS 1081).
