Landowner Was Not Responsible For Horse Fence, Vermont High Court Says
(March 21, 2016, 10:38 PM EDT) -- MONTPELIER, Vt. — Because a landowner had no duty to inspect or maintain fences erected by a tenant for the tenant's horse, the landowner cannot be liable for a plaintiff who was injured when a horse escaped from the property, the majority of the Vermont Supreme Court said March 4 (William Deveneau v. Susan Wielt, et al., No. 14-330, Vermont Sup.; 2016 Vt. LEXIS 28).
