College Students File Amended Complaint Over Google Email Scanning

(March 18, 2016, 2:02 PM EDT) -- SAN JOSE, Calif. — A group of more than 700 college and university students filed an amended complaint against Google Inc. in California federal court March 16, alleging that the Internet giant violated the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) by scanning their emails in the Google Apps for Education (GAFE) program for the purpose of directing targeted advertisements at them (Ryan Corley, et al. v. Google Inc., No. 5:16-cv-00473, N.D. Calif.).
