Pennsylvania Environmental Agency Fines Driller $990,900 For Tainting Groundwater

Mealey's (June 17, 2015, 4:20 PM EDT) -- HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on Dec. 22 announced that it has fined an energy company $990,900 for illegal dumping of waste from hydraulic fracturing that contaminated groundwater sources in Greene County, Pa.

The DEP said that in January 2014, a landslide that occurred at a fracking well pad operated by Vantage Energy Appalachia LLC resulted in the contamination of local streams and drinking water sources.
