Florida Senate Committee Quashes Bill Preempting Existing Fracking Laws

(March 3, 2016, 2:09 PM EST) -- TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Senate Appropriations Committee in Florida on March 1 voted down a bill that would have preempted existing laws related to oil and gas exploration such as hydraulic fracturing and would have deleted provisions in the state code that prohibit the Florida Division of Water Resource Management from granting drilling permits within the limits of a municipality without approval of the governing authority of that municipality.

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted 10-9 to give Senate Bill 318 an unfavorable recommendation.
