Washington High Court Strikes Ballot Initiative To Give Water Rights To River

(February 5, 2016, 3:24 PM EST) -- OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington Supreme Court on Feb. 4 unanimously affirmed a trial court ruling that a ballot initiative that would, in part, give citizen-enforceable water rights to the Spokane River, is beyond the scope of local initiative power (Spokane Entrepreneurial Center, et al. v. Spokane Moved to Amend The Constitution, et al., No. 91551-2, Wash. Sup.; 2106 Wash. LEXIS 125).
