Georgia Can’t Depose Florida Commissioner In Interstate Water Dispute

(February 2, 2016, 3:19 PM EST) -- PORTLAND, Maine — Georgia may not depose Florida’s commissioner of agriculture and consumer services in the states’ groundwater dispute, a U.S. Supreme Court special master ruled Jan. 20 (State of Florida v. State of Georgia, No. 142, Original, U.S. Sup.).

Florida sued Georgia in a case of original jurisdiction in the U.S. Supreme Court, alleging that Georgia was withdrawing excess groundwater the two states share. Among other things, Florida says the lack of water in 2012 destroyed Florida’s oyster-producing areas....
