New York Justice Compels Compliance With Subpoenas Into Tobacco Sales

Mealey's (June 17, 2015, 10:46 AM EDT) -- NEW YORK — A New York state justice on April 14 ordered a state corporation to comply with subpoenas issued by the state’s attorney general in its investigation into allegedly illegal tobacco sales across the state, holding that a companion company of the corporation owned by a Native American tribe cannot use tribal sovereignty as a shield to bar production (State of New York v. ERW Enterprises Inc., No. 45162/13, N.Y. Sup., New York Co.; 2015 N.Y. Misc. LEXIS 1270).
