Judge Enters Default Ruling, Awards Damages For Unlawful Broadcast

(February 1, 2016, 1:03 PM EST) -- SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A California federal judge on Jan. 20 granted a request for a default ruling on claims for conversion in favor of a distributor of sporting events against an establishment and its owner in relation to the unlawful broadcast of a program and dismissed a claim for violation of California's unfair competition law (UCL), awarding the distributor $10,000 in statutory damages (Joe Hand Promotions Inc. v. Suzanne E. Forsberg, et al., No. 2:14-cv-1559, E.D. Calif.; 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 9624).
