Group Tells 4th Circuit Insurers Sold Policies That Were ‘Illegal’

Mealey's (January 27, 2016, 1:00 PM EST) -- RICHMOND, Va. — A group of insureds have appealed to the Fourth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals a district court ruling that found that a group of insurers did not cause them injury when they sold the group policies that were “illegal and void ab initio because they were not issued to eligible groups and were not properly approved by the North Carolina Department of Insurance (DOI)” (Mario Petruzzo, et al. v. Healthextras Inc., et al., No. 15-1673, 4th Cir.).
