Olympus Duodenoscopes Recalled For Design Fix; Company Will Do Annual Inspections

(January 20, 2016, 11:57 AM EST) -- CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Olympus America Inc. on Jan. 15 announced a voluntary recall of its TJR-Q180V duodenoscopes to replace the elevator mechanism, according to a “dear doctor” letter posted on the company’s website.

Duodenoscopes have been linked by the Food and Drug Administration with numerous “superbug” infections that allegedly result from incomplete cleaning of the existing devices even when procedures are followed.

Olympus said that beginning in February, new duodenoscopes will include the elevator redesign.
