High Court Rejects Origination Clause Challenge To ACA

(January 19, 2016, 3:36 PM EST) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Supreme Court on Jan. 19 declined to hear a case alleging that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA)’s passage violated the origination clause (Matt Sissel v. United States Department of Health and Human Services, et al., No. NA, U.S. Sup.).

Matt Sissel sued the federal government in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, challenging the ACA’s individual mandate requiring all individuals to have health insurance as unconstitutional, invalid and unenforceable.
