Propriety Of Educators’ Lay-Offs Debated In Cherokee Supreme Court

(January 13, 2016, 12:36 PM EST) -- TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation Supreme Court has been asked to decide whether the tribe violated the due process rights of three former school district employees by terminating their employment without a school board decision or whether the workers were properly laid off based on the expiration of their employment contracts with the tribe, according to recent briefs filed in the appeal of a tribal court ruling (Geary Crofford, et al. v. Bill John Baker, et al., No. SC-15-08, Cherokee Nation Sup.).
