Truckee River Agreement Implemented, Will Give Water Rights Holders ‘Credit Water’

(January 7, 2016, 2:24 PM EST) -- Twenty-six years of disputes, litigation, environmental studies, regulatory action and negotiations over water from the Truckee River have ended with the implementation of the Truckee River Operating Agreement “TROA”, two of the signatories announced Jan. 5.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation said the long dispute involved operation of Truckee River reservoirs and the Truckee and Carson River basins. It said the agreement will regulate interstate water allocations between California and Nevada in the Lake Tahoe, Truckee River and Carson River basins.
