Plaintiffs Seek MDL For 15 Viagra/Melanoma Federal Lawsuits

(December 21, 2015, 12:29 PM EST) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — Plaintiffs on Dec. 11 asked the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPMDL) to centralize 15 federal lawsuits alleging that Viagra increases the risk of melanoma (In Re: Viagra Products Liability Litigation, MDL Docket No. 2691, JPMDL).

The plaintiffs say Viagra inhibits the secretion of phosphodiesterase type 5, an enzyme responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate. They say several studies have linked that mechanism to cell mutation cultivating melanomagenesis.
