Immunity Extends To Tribal Authority, Officials, Federal Judge Holds
Mealey's (December 3, 2015, 11:10 AM EST) -- GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Claims filed by three Native Americans against a tribal housing authority and several officials to recover damages resulting from an explosion fail because the authority and officials are protected by the tribe’s sovereign immunity and did not waive that immunity, a Montana federal judge ruled Dec. 2 (Glenn Eagleman, et al. v. Rocky Boys Chippewa-Cree Tribal Business Committee or Council, et al., No. 4:14-cv-73, D. Mont.; 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 161739).
