Judge Reduces Jury Award, Denies Hospital’s Motion For New Trial
Mealey's (December 2, 2015, 2:48 PM EST) -- OMAHA, Neb. — A federal judge in Nebraska on Nov. 25 decreased a $17 million verdict awarded by a jury in a medical malpractice suit after finding that the hospital is a qualified health provider under a Nebraska law, which required the verdict to be capped at $1.75 million (Doran Schmidt et al. v. Bellevue Medical Center L.L.C., No. 8:13CV143, D. Neb; 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 159351).
