Massachusetts High Court Agrees That Inmates’ Native American Rights Violated
(November 24, 2015, 2:09 PM EST) -- BOSTON — A Massachusetts trial court properly found that the state Department of Correction (DOC) violated federal law and a prior settlement agreement when it closed a purification lodge constructed at a prison for use by inmates with Native American religious beliefs, the state’s high court ruled Nov. 23 in affirming the lower court’s decision (Randall Trapp, et al. v. Gary Roden, et al., No. SJC-11863, Mass. Sup. Jud.; 2015 Mass. LEXIS 826).
