Florida Court Finds $30 Million Tobacco Verdict Was Excessive

(November 11, 2015, 10:53 AM EST) -- WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After finding that a $30 million verdict awarded to the widow of a man who died of lung cancer caused by cigarettes made by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. (RJR) was excessive, a Florida appeals court on Nov. 4 remanded the case for further review (R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company v. Joan Schoeff, as personal representative of the Estate of James Edward Schoeff, No. 4D13-1765, Fla. App.; 2015 Fla. App. LEXIS 16577).
