PCA Finds It Has Jurisdiction Over UNCLOS Claims Against China

(October 30, 2015, 9:56 AM EDT) -- THE HAGUE, Netherlands — A tribunal for the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) on Oct. 29 found that it has jurisdiction over maritime-related claims asserted by the Republic of the Philippines against the People's Republic of China in a maritime dispute filed under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), noting that the case can now proceed to the merits phase (The Republic of the Philippines v. The People's Republic of China, No. 2013-19, PCA).
