Depakote Birth Defect Trial Under Way In Ohio Federal Court

(October 14, 2015, 7:19 AM EDT) -- CINCINNATI — A Depakote birth defect trial got under way Oct. 8 in Ohio federal court (Pamela Rheinfrank, et al. v. Abbott Laboratories, Inc., et al., No. 13-144, S.D. Ohio, Western Div.).

Pamela Rheinfrank ingested the anti-epileptic drug Depakote to treat a seizure disorder while she was pregnant in 2003. Rheinfrank’s daughter, identified in court papers as M.B.D., was born in 2003 with eye defects, small head circumference and a brain-spinal malformation.
