DOI To Investigate EPA Mine Spill In Colorado

(August 25, 2015, 9:41 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Aug. 18, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) will lead an independent assessment of the factors that led to the Aug. 5 Gold King Mine incident in Colorado that affected the Animas and San Juan rivers.


The assessment began Aug. 18, and it is anticipated that the DOI will provide a report to the EPA and public within 60 days, the EPA said in a press release.
