HHS Exempts Orientation From 90-Day Insurance Wait Period

Mealey's (June 12, 2015, 8:56 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has issued a final rule providing for a maximum 90-day waiting period for offering insurance to otherwise eligible hires. The rule is set to be published June 25, 2014.

The rule makes an exemption for orientation periods of up to a month. The HHS called “short, bona fide orientation periods” “commonplace” and said it did not intend to question their reasonableness.
