Bid To Change Headright Inheritance Filed Too Late, Federal Judge Says

Mealey's (October 12, 2016, 11:28 AM EDT) -- TULSA, Okla. — A Native American woman cannot modify her late father’s will so that an Indian oil and mineral headright can go to her Indian daughter rather than a non-Indian daughter because the woman’s claim is barred by the statute of limitations, an Oklahoma federal judge held Oct. 7 (Edith Dolores Neal v. Helen Ann Nicholson, et al., No. 16-cv-0234, N.D. Okla.; 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 139766).
