Kansas Panel Affirms Fracking Company’s Calculation For Amount Of Lease Tax

Mealey's (October 5, 2016, 2:19 PM EDT) -- TOPEKA, Kan. — The Kansas Court of Appeals on Sept. 30 affirmed a decision by the Kansas Board of Tax Assessment (BOTA) that allowed a hydraulic fracturing company’s appraisal of the taxable value of its oil and gas leases to stand even though it was less than the amount the county appraiser had calculated, on grounds that the methodology used by the fracking company was “the better indicator of the leases’ value” (In the Matter of the Equalization Appeal of Woolsey Operating Company LLC, No. 114,593, Kan.
