Judge Refuses To Halt Road Project Near Lake On Indian Reservation

Mealey's (October 3, 2016, 2:06 PM EDT) -- PIERRE, S.D. — An Indian tribe lost its bid to have a property owner remove a road and bridge from land next to what tribal members call a sacred lake when a South Dakota federal judge on Sept. 29 denied the tribe’s request for an injunction; the judge did, however, remand the dispute to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to determine if part of the road work was an undertaking that could affect historic land (Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation, et al. v.
