Yahoo Announces Breach Affecting 500 Million User Accounts

(September 26, 2016, 2:01 PM EDT) -- SUNNYVALE, Calif. — In a Sept. 22 press release, Yahoo Inc. announced that during a recent investigation, it discovered a two-year-old theft of its users’ account information, affecting “at least 500 million user accounts.” Yahoo stressed that it does not appear that sensitive information, such as “unprotected passwords, payment card data, or bank account information,” was included in the theft.
