CMS Promises ACA Insurers Full Payment On Risk Corridor Obligations

Mealey's (September 16, 2016, 11:53 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) risk corridor program debts are U.S. government obligations requiring full payment, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) said in a Sept. 9 letter addressing insurer concerns about timely and adequate transfers under the program.

As a result, CMS said funds collected in 2015, which are not yet finalized, would first be used to pay outstanding debts the program incurred in 2014.
