New Jersey ACA CO-OP Latest To Cease Operations, Will Close In 2017

(September 15, 2016, 1:28 PM EDT) -- TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) Consumer Operated and Oriented Program (CO-OP) will cease operations in 2017 after the state’s regulators asked that it be placed in rehabilitation by Sept. 19.

The Freelancers Consumer Operated and Oriented Program of New Jersey, which did business as Health Republic Insurance of New Jersey, was created with $109 million in loans from the ACA. Health Republic currently provides coverage to 25,934 people through individual plans and another 9,016 through small group plans....
