FDA Advises All Blood Donations Be Tested For Zika Virus

(August 26, 2016, 12:34 PM EDT) -- SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration on Aug. 26 advised that all donated blood and blood components in the United States and its territories be tested for the Zika virus.

In a press release, the FDA said there is “still much uncertainty regarding the nature and extent of Zika virus transmission” and “testing the entire blood supply will help ensure that safe blood is available for all individuals who might need transfusion.”
