Judge Finds Mass Joinder Inappropriate In Google Email-Scanning Suit
Mealey's (August 24, 2016, 12:28 PM EDT) -- SAN JOSE, Calif. — Google Inc. was granted motions to sever more than 800 plaintiffs in two related email-scanning lawsuits Aug. 19, with a California federal judge deeming mass joinder improper because the plaintiffs’ claims did not arise from the same transaction or occurrence (Ryan Corley, et al. v. Google Inc., No. 5:16-cv-00473, and Keith Amaral, et al. v. Google Inc., No. 5:16-cv-02553, N.D. Calif.; 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 111076).
